Chapter 27 - Enhancing the Adrenergic Response Flashcards
1
Q
epinephrine (Adrenalin)
A
Class: Adrenergics
- MOA: stimulates alpha adrenergic receptors, beta1 and beta2 receptors
- Uses: anaphylactic shock, cardiac arrest, added to local anesthetics, hypotension (severe) shock, MAP (mean arterial pressure) b/w 80-100
- AE: MANY (CNS, heart, GI tract, most often patients have effects related to stimulating sympathetic nervous system, if HR/BP up too high, can have hypertensive stroke, if heart problems ( inc HR) –> can cause ischemia and chest pain
- Patient teaching: Let patients know what will happen if awake/alert enough; can cause dizziness, inc. HR, jittery, anxious, inc. BP, not same effect in subQ tissue as IV, report any of these S/S
