1. mRNA copy of the gene for a protein is made in the nucleus - transcription
2. mRNA leaves the nucleus through a nuclear pore
3. mRNA attaches to a ribosomes which reads the instructions and assembles the protein
4. Vesicles containing the protein are pinched off and travel towards the Golgi apparatus
5. Vesicle fuses
6. Golgi apparatus processes and packages insulin molecules
7. Packed molecules are pinched off in vesicles from the Golgi and move towards the plasma membrane
8. Vesicle fuses with the plasma membrane
9. Plasma membrane opens to release the protein molecule outside the cell
