Work?
Any activity that requires effort e.g homework
Employment?
Any activity that requires effort in return for payment e.g teaching a class
Employees?
People who work in return for payment
Employer?
People who hire others to do work for them in return for payment
Labour force?
All the people who are available for work, this includes the employed and the unemployed , but not those who have retired, those who are still in education or those who don’t want to work.
Redundancy?
Workers are let go because there is no work for them to do.
Public sector?
Anyone who works for the government or for a government owned organisation is said to be working in the public sector e.g nurses
Private sector?
Those who do not work either directly or indirectly for the government are said to be employed in the private sector e.g accountants
Managing director/ CEO(chief executive officer)?
The most senior employee in the firm and is in charge of the day-to-day running of the business

- manufacturing, bul idling and construction

- e.g insurance, teachers, transport
2 reasons for unemployment ?
- New technology means jobs can now be done by machines
- economy may be going though a recession
3 rights of an employee?
- receive a fair days wage for a fair days work
- to have safe working conditions
- treated equally to other employees
3 responsibilities of an employee?
- doing a fair days work for a fair days pay
- not to steal from their employer
- abiding by the rules of the company
3 risks of bring self employed?
- the profit may be low
- your business could fail and you could loose everything
- usually have to work long hours
