Chapter 23 - Magnetism Flashcards
What direction does a magnetic field face?
A magnetic field faces from north to south.
What can you deduce about a magnetic field, from a diagram which shows equally spaced lines?
A magnetic field, shown with equally spaced field lines, is a uniform field, showing that the strength of the magnetic field does not vary.
Which way does conventional current flow?
Conventional Current flows from the positive terminal into the negative terminal.
Explain how you would use Fleming’s Left-Hand Rule?
Define magnetic flux density.
Is magnetic flux density a vector or a scalar?
How do you find the Force exerted on a particle, from a uniform magnetic field?
Where B is the magnetic flux density, N is the number of particles, Q is the charge, v is the speed of the particle, e is the elementary (electron charge), and F is the force.
How do you find the Force exerted on a particle, from a uniform magnetic field, moving at right angles?
Define the equation for a velocity selector?
Define Magnetic Flux and Magnetic Flux Linkage.
Define Faraday’s Law and therefore, define Lenz’s Law.
Describe a diagram for a transformer.
State the formula for an ideal transformer.
