Chapter 22 Special Design Considerations Flashcards
Spaces requiring special considerations
Industrial, laboratories, test facilities, hazardous, and/or transportation facilities
Standards for the following things may not apply in spaces/facilities requiring special design considerations
-Cable type
-Cable lenght
-Connector arrangements
-pathway types
Specific areas of concern in Special Design include:
-degree of environmental control
-presence of hazardous production, handling, use, and storage of flammable/explosive materials
-exposure to chemically reactive materials
-areas with significant EMC/EMI concerns & conditions
TIA-1005 is
a standard to address unique condiitons that may exist in special occupancies such as industrial premises
TIA-1005 defines the following areas
Factory floor area
Work areas within an industrial premises
Automation island areas
MICE acronym
Mechanical
Ingress
Chemical/Climatic
Electromagnetic
MICE is used
as an environmental classification system
MICE ratings
MICE 1 - typical conditions
MICE 2- light industrial
MICE 3- heavy industrial
Where cabling systems pass between different MICE classification boundaries -
cabling system should be compatible with worst-case MICE environment
Highest rating MICE locations are found in
Work areas and Machine areas
