Clergy
Top 1% of French population. Consists of religious leaders who were very wealthy. They didn’t pay taxes

2% of French population. Very rich land owners. They didn’t pay taxes
Bourgeois
Everyone besides the clergy and nobility. 97% of French populations. Anywhere from middle class down.
National Assembly
The bourgeois were fed up and started their own parliament
Émigrés
Nobles that fled France to avoid death
Constitution of 1791
Written by National Assembly, gave the king limited power and split the government into 3 branches.
Robespierre
Took over control after king was banished. Led the reign of terror. Killed 40,000 people using guillotine
Plebiscite
A yes or no vote
Napoleon
A war general who won a lot of battles for France. He was dangerous for Europe
The hundred days
The time in between Napoleon is defeated the first time, and then defeated the second time
Congress of Vienna
After Napoleonic era, they worked to divide the European continent equally amongst its countries
What were the goals of the congress of Vienna?
