Chapter 20,21,22 Flashcards
What does the juxtoglomerular apparatus do?
Regulates the secretion of the enzyme renin
What is the purpose of renin?
Monitors and adjust blood pressure, and NaCl content of filtrate
Who releases angiotensinogen?
Liver
What organ releases renin?
Kidneys
Angiotensinogen and renin combine to form what?
Angiontensinogen 1
The inner surface of the lungs release what to create angiotensin 2?
Angiotensin converting enzyme(ACE)
What does angiotensin stimulate?
Vasoconstriction, increased aldosterone secretion, increased ADH secretion, and increased thirst
Where are angiotensinogen and renin released?
Released into the blood stream
What are 2 types of nephrons?
Cortical nephrons and juxtamedullary nephrons
What are the majority type of nephrons?
Cortical nephrons
What is the difference between the cortical nephrons and the juxtamedullary nephrons?
Cortical nephrons have a short nephron loop, juxtamedullary nephrons have long nephron loops, that extend deep into medulla
What is the pathway of the renal tubule?
Proximal tubule, descending limb of the nephron loop, ascending limb of the nephron loop, and distal tubule
What are the parts of the renal corpuscle?
Glomerulus and bowman’s capsule
What are the parts of the renal tubule ?
From glomerular capsule to the collecting duct
What is the effect of aldosterone?
Affects solute concentration of urine, particularly Na+
