Q

Can man know God?

A

(1) In one sense God is incomprehensible. How can finite beings comprehend an infinite, limitless God?

Romans 11:33
33O the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God! how unsearchable are his judgments, and his ways past finding out!

(2) On the other hand, God is knowable. Is can and has revealed himself to man through the person of Jesus Christ. We must know him to be saved.

John 1:18
18No man hath seen God at any time; the only begotten Son, which is in the bosom of the Father, he hath declared him.

(3) In heaven we will come to have a fuller knowledge of who God is.

1 Corinthians 13:12
12For now we see through a glass, darkly; but then face to face: now I know in part; but then shall I know even as also I am known.

Q

What are the 5 arguments for God’s existence?

A

(1) Argument from reason
Cause and effect world / God is the best explanation for the origin of matter

(2) The argument from nature
For almost everything in nature we find a designed purpose

(3) The argument from history
Rests upon the foundation of divine providence. You can see that while God does not cause every individual event, He controls the stream of events to carry out His purposes. (Letter: Napoleon to General Bertrand)

(4) The argument from the human soul
2 parts: (a) God’s image in man (b) man’s moral nature. Seen in Man’s dominion / man’s universal sense of right/wrong.

(5) The argument from scripture
Dr. W.F. Albright (Archeologists) wrote: “nothing tending to disturb the religious faith of Jew or Christian has been discovered…discovery after discovery has established the accuracy of innumerable details, and has brought increased recognition of the value of the Bible as a source book of history.”
