What does the term sample refer to?
A smaller group of participants selected from a large group of potential participants.
What does the term population refer to?
The entire group of research participants.
What does the term research hypothesis refer to?
A testable prediction of the relationship between 2 or more variables.
What does the term descriptive statistics refer to? Give an example:
Statistics which are used for analysing, organising, summarising and presenting results.
Eg. Percentages or graphs
What is a table?
An orderly arrangement and display of data in columns and rows.
What is a graph?
A pictorial representation of data.
What does the term mean refer to?
The average of the scores in a set of results.
What does the term conclusion refer to?
What the results of the study mean?.
What does the term generalisation refer to?
How widely the findings of the study can be used.
What does the term ethics refer to?
Whether the experiment was carried out in a good, desirable or acceptable way.
What does the term confidentiality refer to?
The obligation of the researcher to not use or disclose private information about participants unless it is for the reason it was given to them.
What does voluntary participation mean?
That participants have given consent to participate without being forced or pressured into it.
What does the term withdrawal of rights refer to?
The right for any participant to withdraw from the study at any time without giving a reason.
What does the term informed consent refer to?
Consent with the knowledge and understanding of the study and the consequences of participating.
what does deception refer to?
When participants are deliberately led or not fully informed about certain aspects or the study.
