CHAPTER 2 - movement analysis (p1) Flashcards
1
Q
what is the transverse plane
A
- divides body into top and bottom
- rotation, e.g. golf swing
2
Q
what is the longitudinal axis
A
- runs vertically from head to toe
- perpendicular to transverse plane e.g. 360 ice skating spin
3
Q
what is the frontal plane
A
- runs vertically from side to side
- adduction and abduction e.g. star jump
4
Q
what is the sagittal axis
A
- runs horizontally from front to back (through stomach)
- perpendicular to frontal plane e.g. cartwheel
5
Q
what is the sagittal plane
A
- runs from front to back (sides)
- flexion and extension e.g. running
6
Q
what is the transverse axis
A
- runs horizontally (through hips)
- perpendicular to sagittal plane e.g. somersault
7
Q
plane/axial pairs
A
- transverse plane, longitudinal axis
- frontal plane, sagittal axis
- sagittal plane, transverse axis
8
Q
what is the resistance arm?
A
distance from load to fulcrum
9
Q
what is the effort arm
A
distance from the effort to fulcrum
10
Q
what is mechanical disadvantage
A
when it takes a lot of effort to lift a relatively small load
11
Q
what is mechanical advantage
A
a lot weight can be lifted with little effort
12
Q
how do you calculate mechanical advantage
A
effort arm divided by weight arm
13
Q
what is the resistance
A
load against pull of muscle
14
Q
what is the effort
A
force applied by the muscles to lever arm
15
Q
what is the fulcrum
A
the point where the lever arm pivots
