Chapter 2: Knobology Flashcards
What are the keyboard controls?
Annotation On/Off or Comments On/Off, Erase/Clear/Clear Screen, Backspace, and New Patient Key/End Current Patient.
What does the Annotation On/Off or Comments On/Off button do?
Allows for annotations or comments to be entered on screen. Many systems have a preprogrammed library of annotations.
What does the Erase/Clear/Clear Screen button do?
This lets you erase all user-entered annotations from the cursor location.
What does the backspace button do?
This lets you erase the last character to the left of the cursor.
What does the new patient key/end current patient button do?
This allows you to either enter new patient information or to clear the current patients ID, graphics, stored images, and comments.
What is the “Worklist”?
This is an electronically driven program that allows you to see the history of procedures and help maintain quality control.
What is the patient information page?
This is where patient demographics are stored along with medical information. For sonographers, if you do a procedure, this is where you would initial what you’ve done.
What does the Primary Imaging Controls do?
This allows you to directly control the image quality.
What are the primary imaging controls?
Transducer/Probe button, Imaging Preset/Model, Frequency, Depth, Time-Gain Compensation (TCG), TCG Curve, Focal Zone Position and Focal Number, Dual Image and/or Left/Right Key, Image Direction, Freeze Key, Cine Loop, Print/Store Key, and Trackball.
What does the Transducer/Probe button do?
This lets you to select the different transducers/probes you can use.
What does the Imaging Preset/Model button do?
This lets you to select an appropriate preset image as a starting point from which the examination will be preformed.
What does the Frequency button do?
You select an imaging frequency based on the patient’s anatomy and examination type. High frequencies are for superficial structures and low frequencies are for deeper structures.
What does the Depth button do?
This lets you adjust the image size.
What does the Time-Gain Compensation (TCG) button do?
This makes the returning echos from deep in the body be amplified so information on deeper structures can be received.
What does the TCG Curve button do?
This displays the TCG information located vertically on the right side of the ultrasound screen.
What does the Focal Zone Position and Focal Number do?
This adds or removes additional focal zones.
What does the Dual Image and/or Left/Right Key do?
This can display images side by side where image measurements can be compared.
What does the Image Direction button do?
This reverses the scan direction from either right/left direction or up/down direction.
What does the Freeze Key do?
This lets you to freeze and suspend real-time images.
What does the Cine Loop button do?
This lets you store recently scanned images into the system memory before the freeze key is depressed.
What does the Print/Store button do?
This lets you to activate the program storage device to store the frozen image.
What does the Trackball button do?
Guides the cursor onto the screen, position measurements during freeze mode, and change the scan area.
What are the Additional Controls?
Body Pattern, Doppler/Pulse Waved, and M-Mode controls, and Monitor Controls.
What is the body pattern?
This is the body pattern displayed on the monitor screen.
What does the Doppler/Pulse Waved/ M-Mode controls do?
Activates those modes causing the image and trackball to change depending on which mode is activated.
What does the Monitor Controls do?
This lets you either make the screen brighter or darker on the screen.
What are the basic operations of ultrasound?
- Enter the Patient’s Name or ID and Verify Patient Information
- Select the appropriate transducer.
- Place a generous amount of gel on the transducer
- Adjust image depth to cover the area of interest.
- Adjust Focal Zone
- Adjust the TCG
What does PACS stand for?
Picture Archiving and Communications System
What does PACS do?
This allows for quick and reliable retrieval of images, which can be sent to outside locations for interpretation and consultation.`
What does HIS stand for?
Hospital Information System
What does HIS do?
Allows the sonographer to communicate with the patient’s medical records.
What does RIS stand for?
Radiology Information System
What does RIS do?
Provides images and reports from other imaging examinations.
