Identities
Symbolic roles or characters that we play in life. It’s how others perceive themselves, and how people want to be perceived by others. (give an example)
Perception
How you view and understand everything around you, and helps you build and keep the sense of who you are. (give an example)
Selective exposure
The idea that you more likely to “expose” and choose to be around things that support your beliefs and values. (give an example)
Selective retention
The idea that you are more likely to recall things that support your belief and values. (give an example)
Selective perception
The idea that you are more likely to perceive and focus on things that support your belief and values. (give an example)
Front-region
A frame where a social interaction occurs in a certain way to make a good impression of their intended faces. (give an example)
Back-region
A frame where a social interaction occurs that does not have to be in best behavior and don’t present their public faces. (give an example)
Self-description
Description that involves information about self that is obvious to others based on appearance and behavior. (give an example)
Self-disclosure
Revelation of personal information that others can’t know unless the person makes it known to them. (give an example)
Symbolic self
A symbol that is made up of how you see yourself and how others see you-. It’s created through social interactions and whether others accept it or not. (give an example)
Attitude of reflection
Being aware of how you look in other people’s eyes and how that makes you feel about yourself. (give an example)
Altercasting
When the words we use can shape how others see themselves and what they feel they need to do to fit that identity. (give an example)
