Chapter 2-DF9 Flashcards
What do the molecules look like?
W3hat are Cis/trans and E-Z Isomerism?
These stereoisomers are isomers that differ only in the spatial arrangement of atoms in the planar part of the molecule (or above and below a ring)
What is the difference between a Z-(cis) and E-(trans) isomer?
Z-The groups are on the same side of the double bond. (cis)
E-The groups are on the opposite side of the double bond. (trans)
What are the different properties between E-Z and Cis-Trans?
E- has a higher melting point, and stronger intermolecular bonds
Are alcohols a homologous series of organic compounds?
Yes
What is the general formula for an alcohol?
CnH2n+1OH
What is the name of the alcohol functional group?
Hydroxyl group -OH
What do primary, secondary or tertiary alcohols mean?
The number of carbons joined to the carbon which is attached to the -OH functional group
