chapter 2 departure Flashcards
When must you report equipment failure
VOR/ADF in controlled airspace GPS anomalies Complete or partial loss of ILS Comm loss Any other IFR-required equipment
What items are given in an abbreviated IFR clearance?
C learance limit R oute A ltitude F requency T ransponder
IFR takeoff minimums 14 CFR part 91
2 engines or less - 1SM visibility
2 or more - 1/2SM visibility
What are DPs?
Departure procedures connect the terminal environment to the appropriate en route structure
What are the two types of DPs?
ODP - Obstacle departure procedure (No ATC required)
SID - Standard instrument departure (ATC clearance required)
What are the two types of SIDs?
Pilot navigation SIDs - Onboard navigation and little communication required, usually contains set of initial instructions then one or more transition routes
Radar vector SIDs - Requires radar vectors from ATC until reaching the assigned route/fix
What is a DVA?
Diverse vector area - Areas in which ATC may provide random radar vectors during an uninterrupted climb from the departure runway until above the MVA/MIA
Where are DPs located?
Listed by the airport in the IFR takeoff minimums and ODPs section of the Terminal Procedures Publication (TPP)
Steps to ensure proper terrain and obstacle clearance after departure:
The type of terrain & obstacles in the vicinity
Whether an ODP is available and if conditions are right to use/not use it
The effect of bad climb performance and actions to take in case of engine loss
What is a VOCA?
Visual climb over airport - an option for departing IFR aircraft operating in VMC, visually conduct climbing turns over the airport to a designated “climb to” altitude.
What are the different VOR tests and their allowed errors?
VOR test signal (VOT) - ±4 Radio repair station test signal - ±4 VOR ground checkpoint - ±4 VOR airborne checkpoint - ±6 Airborne over prominent landmark on victor airway & more than 20 NM from the VOR - ±6 Dual - 4 degree difference
What records must be kept concerning VOR checks?
Date, place, bearing error, and signature
