Chapter 2: Aorta, IVC, Iliac Vessels, Penile Vessels Flashcards
Aortic Anatomy
- Ascending aorta
-Aortic arch
-Ascending thoracic aorta
-Abdominal aorta
-
Ascending Aorta
-Arises from the left ventricle
-Has two branches
Left & right coronary arteries
Aortic Arch
-Formed by the ascending aorta
-Gives off 3 branches:
-innominate
-left common carotid
-left subclavian arteries
Descending Thoracic Aorta
-Extends downward from aortic arch
-Ends just above the diaphragm
Abdominal Aorta
Begins below diaphragm
Major Visceral Branches of the Abdominal Aorta
-Celiac Artery AKA Celiac Trunk (CA)
-Superior Mesenteric Artery (SMA)
-Renal Arteries (RA)
-Inferior Mesenteric Artery (IMA)
Common Iliac Artery (CIA)
-Begins at the bifurcation of the aorta
-Bifurcates into the internal and external iliac arteries
Internal Iliac Artery (IIA)
- Descends into the pelvis
- Highly variable
External Iliac Artery (EIA)
-Essentially continuations of CIAs
- IN ADULTS
-larger than IIAs
-Beneath inguinal ligament
-becomes the common femoral artery
Deep lower extremity veins
-External iliac veins
-Internal iliac veins
External iliac vein
-Confluences with internal iliac vein
-Becomes the common iliac vein
Internal iliac vein
Drains the pelvic region
Common Iliac Veins
right and left confluence to form the Inferior Vena Cava
Inferior Vena Cava
continues to the right atrium of the heart
Penile arterial blood supply
Dorsal artery
-travel along dorsal side of the penis
-supplies blood to: Corpus spongiosum
