Chapter 2/3 Outline Flashcards
What are the life supporting properties of water?
1.Cohesion
2. Temperature Modifying
3. Ice Floats
4. Universal Solvent
What is an inorganic molecule?
A molecule not consisting of carbon atoms
What is a organic molecule?
It is a complex molecule of life that contains the element carbon bonded with other elements.
Why is carbon such a versatile atom?
Because of it’s structures and possibilities that it can do
How do you build big molecules?
Big molecules can be created with Monomers and Polymers
What is hydrolysis synthesis?
Add water to break down polymers
What is dehydration synthesis?
Remove water to build a bond
What are the types of carbohydrates?
- Sugars (Mono and Di)
- Polysaccharides
What do carbohydrates do?
They provide us energy
What are the types of lipids?
- Fats
- Steroids
- Phospholipids
What do lipids do ?
They store energy
Why do we need cholestrol?
Body cannot live without cholesterol and it also makes our hormones
What are the different types of proteins (amino acids)?
- Structural
- Storage
- Contractile
- Transport
What do proteins do?
They are the workers of the body
What can happen to a proteins form?
It can become denatured by temperature and ph making it super sensitive to its enviorment
