Self Report Tests
- Do not rely on interaction and questions from the examiner
- Responses are matched against a larger data base where factor analysis is used to divide responses into subscales
Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory - 2 - Restructured form (MMPI - 2 - RF)
- Contains 338 True - False statements that assess interest patterns, Habits, familty relationships, somatic compliants, attitudes, beleifs, and behaviours characteristic of psychological disorders
- used as a test of personality and assisting in the diagnosis of abnormal behaviour patterns
Projective Tests
These tests allegedly evoke responses that may reveal a persons personality by that person ‘Projecting’ core attitudes, beleifs and values on neutral or amigious stimuli
The Rorschach Inkblot test
- A persons responses to inkblots are used to reveal aspects on their personality
Evaluation of Rorschach Inkblot Test
- Lack of a standard scoring procedure
- Interpretation of a persons responses is not objective
- Depends on the ssubjective judgement of the examiner
The Thematic Apperception Test (TAT)
- Consists of a series of cards depiciting amigous scenes
- Respondants construct stories on them
- The story reflects the experiences they might have
House Person Tree Test
- typically used for children and does not require a lot verbal interaction with the examiner
What does a House Person Test look like
- Does not require a lot of verbal interaction with the examiner
- Asked to draw a house, person and a tree
- Examiner asks questions like: Who lives in the house? Do people visit the house? What kind of tree is it?
What do Neuropsychological Assessments look for
- Used to evaluate whether or not psychological problems reflect unerlying neurological damage or brain defects
