What is government?
Government is the authority and power to control, to direct, and to rule the actions and affairs of others.
Where does the source of authority and power come from?
God.
What is the first foundational civil ordinance
Capital punishment.
What is the purpose of of civil government?
To protect the innocent by punishing the guilty.
What are laws?
Laws are rules of human action or conduct.
What is the difference between revealed law and natural law?
(1) Revealed laws are orders from God telling men what do to and what not to do
(2) Natural law is summed up as living honestly, harming no one, and giving to each his own.
What is the Decalogue?
The Ten Commandments.
What were Sumerian laws later codified in?
Code of Hammurabi
Where does every form of government derives its authority from?
God.
What is a government ruled directly by God?
Theocracy.
What does the word theocracy indicate in modern times?
Rule by clerics.
The belief that government should remove everything religious from its domain.
Secularism.
What is autocracy?
The rule by one whose will is supreme.
What is democracy?
The people rule, either directly by popular vote or indirectly through elected representatives.
What is the difference between absolute monarchy and constitutional monarchy?
(1) An absolute monarchy is a system of government in which the monarch has unlimited power.
(2) A constitutional monarchy is a system of government in which the monarchs power is limited by a constitution.
