What is MIDI CC events?
(Continuous Controller) MIDI messages that allow you to control the parameters of a MIDI device in real time.
What are fixed CC assignments?
Parameters programmed to respond to a specified continuous controller number.
What are editble/ learnable CC assignments?
Parameters that can be assigned to any CC code.
How do you record MIDI CC data for a virtual instrument plugin?
- Right click the plug in control that you wish to assign to a knob, slider or any hardware control on a MIDI controller.
- Choose LEARN MIDI CC
- Record enable the MIDI or Instrument track containing the target virtual instrument.
- On the MIDI Controller, move the knob, slider or any other control that you wish to assign the parameter to.
Where is recorded CC data written to?
Into the same MIDI clip as the MIDI notes from the record pass.
NOT in a separate playlist like volume automation.
How do you display CC data?
Click the tracks view selector and change it from waveform to any of the options under the CONTROLLERS menu.
How is Automation different from MIDI CC graphs? (4)
- CC data is recorded in the same way as MIDI notes or audio, rather than with dedicated automation modes.
- CC data can ONLY be recorded with a MIDI controller device.
- CC data is written into MIDI clips
- CC data has a lower resolution than pro tools automation.

How do convert CC data to Automation?
- Make sure the specific parameters are automation enabled.
- Place the target track in latch automation mode.
- Play through the track.
- Automation will be recorded according to the parameter changes being driven by the CC data.
What does the MIDI input filter do?
Prevent certain MIDI messages from being recorded.
What three main options do you have on the MIDI filter?
Record:

- ONLY…
- ALL EXCEPT…
What is Aftertouch?
Lets a performer add expressive inflections to a sustained note or chord by varying the pressure held on the keys.
How do you display the MIDI Input Filter Window?
SETUP > MIDI > MIDI INPUT FILTER
What does comiting tracks do?
Converts Midi to Audio.
How do you commit a track?
- Select instrument tracks to render.
- Choose TRACK > COMMIT
- Set the COMMIT selector to SELECTED TRACKS and set the SOURCE TRACKS selector to HIDE AND MAKE INACTIVE
- Click OK to render the audio.
- Each track will be replaced by a new audio track
What does Freezing a track do?
Renders the virtual instrument output as audio directly on the originating track. The track can be unfrozen at anytime to edit the MIDI.
What are two ways to freeze a track?
Click the Track Freeze button at the head of the track in the Edit window.
OR
Select the tracks. TRACK > FREEZE.
How can you freeze all instrument tracks?
Right click on the global track freeze indicator and select all instrument tracks and the click freeze all.
What are three advantages of Track Freeze over Commit tracks?
- Fast and simple
- Easily reversable
- Does not add new tracks to the session
