Conjunctiva:
- stratified columnar epithelium
- contains blood vessels & nerves
- contains goblet cells that lubricate eye
- does not cover cornea
Features of conjunctivitis
- redness and swelling (bacterial and viral)
- discharge, crusting (bacterial)
- clear tearing, bumps on inner eyelid (viral)

What are the 3 tunics (layers) of the eye
fibrous, vascular, retina
What consists of the fibrous tunic (outer)?
sclera & cornea
What tissue is the sclera made out of?
dense irregular connective tissue
What tissues are the cornea made out of?
outer: stratified squamous epithelial
middIe: collagen fibers
inner: simple squamous
What consists of the vascular tunic (middle)?
choroid, ciliary body, iris
What consists of the retina?
pigmented and neural layer
