Chapter 19 - Kp Flashcards

1
Q

What is Kp

A

Kp is the equivalent to Kc for aqueous systems and solutions, however this time in the gas phase. Therefore it is the constant which states how far to the right or left the equilibrium will lie at a specific temperature

Q

What is the expression of Kp for the reaction A(g) + B(g) -><- C(g) + D(g)

A

Kp = C(pp) X D(pp) / A(pp) X B(pp)

Q

What is partial pressure?

A

The amount relative amount of pressure each component of a gas exerts within its system, dependent on how much of it is present, calculated using its mole fraction and pressure of the total system

Q

In the reaction 3A + 4B -> <- 2C + 2D + 2E, which side of the reaction would an increase in pressure prefer and why?

A

Due to the fact that one mole of any gas occupies approximately 24dm^3, we know that the system would lean to the side which would reduce the total numbers of moles of gas in the system, therefore it would move to the right
