What is the definition of a disaster?
Serious disruption in the functioning of a community that exceeds its ability to cope using its own resources.
What is a multiple casualty incident (MCI)?
Does not typically exceed resources beyond the health system.
What is a mass-casualty event (MCE)?
One that has casualties that exceed the resources at the local level and often affects the community.

What is a hazard vulnerability analysis (HVA)?
A process of identifying the hazards and risks that have this highest probability of adversely affecting the healthcare facility and the community.
