What were Black Codes?
These laws were designed to help control newly freed African Americans.
What did the Civil Rights Act of 1866 do?
It gave the federal government power to get involved in state affairs to protect African Americans’ rights.
What did the 14th Amendment do?
The 14th Amendment is saying that if you were born in the United States, you are a U.S. citizen.
Describe the Radical Republicans’ Reconstruction Act of 1867.
The act divided the 10 defiant states into 5 military districts.
Define impeachment
to formally charge someone with wrongdoing.
What did the 15th amendment do?
This amendment guaranteed that state and federal governments could not deny the right to vote to any male citizen because of race, color, or previous condition of servitude.
