Chapter 18/19 Vocabulary Flashcards
Base
Compound that accepts an ion
Acid
Compound that donates an ion
Indicator
Something that changes color at certain pH levels
Neutralization reaction
Chemical reaction in where a base neutralizes an acid or the other way around. Produces a salt and water ions
Salt
Ionic compound formed from the anion of an acid base reaction
Hydronium ion
Ion formed by the addition of a proton to water
Amphoteric
Dis riptide of a substance that can react as an acid or a base.
Conjugate acid
Acid formed from Brønsted-Lowrey base.
Conjugate base
Base formed from Brønsted-Lowrey acid
PH
Values to -log. Determines if a compound is acidic, basic, or neutral
Buffer
Solution where you can add an acid or base and it won’t change pH.
Acid base titration
Procedure used to determine when a compound has neutralized
Standard solution
The reactant at a known concentration
Equivalence point
Point where there is equal Hydronium and hydroxide
End point
Point in titration at which an indicator stops changing color
Titration curve
Graph that shows how pH changes
