Altered mental status
It is a significant indication of injury or illness to patient. It can range from simple disorientation to complete unconsciousness.
Coma
An unconscious date in which a patient does not respond to painful stimuli
The two main categories in mental status
Structural causes (Brain)
Toxic metabolic causes (Body)
The physical exam conducted on a patient with altered mental status includes
Head Pupils Mouth and oral mucosa Chest Breath sounds Abdomen Lower and upper extremities Posterior body
Neurologic deficit
Any deficiency in the functioning of the brain or nervous system
Nontraumatic brain injury/stroke
Medical injury to the brain that is not related to trauma

FACIAL DROOP
ARM WEAKNESS

TIME TO CALL 911
The timeframe of administration of fibrinolytic drugs to a stroke patient
Within 3 hours from the first sign or symptom. 4.5 for selected patients
