Define attitudes
A positive or negative evaluation of an object.
They are learned.
What is the tri component model of attitude
Scientist believe that attitudes have up to three components but some attitudes do not contain all. Eg voting in a campaign uses cognitive and behavioural but not affective (emotional)
What are the three components of an attitude
Affective component- a persons feeling and emotional response
Behavioural component- a persons behaviour, how they act.
Cognitive component- a persons thoughts, ideas and understanding. What we know or think we know.
Function of attitudes
Predisposing- guiding us to behave in a particular way
Interpreting- guiding the interpretation and summary of an attitude object.
Evaluating- helping us to stand up for our values and beliefs.
Define person perception
The process of forming opinions about others.
Influenced by physical appearance, gender, ethnicity, culture, how they move and speak
5 ways of reducing and preventing prejudice
Education- children are taught about tolerance, the consequences of prejudice and what constitutes discrimination
Inter group contact- direct contact between groups of people who have prejudicial attitudes towards each other, having an equal status between groups
Cognitive interventions-making information available reducing irrelevant information about groups of people.
Super ordinate goals- working towards a common goal
Direct experience- directly experiencing another culture or lifestyle.
Difference between implicit attitudes and explicit attitudes
Implicit attitudes- involuntary, uncontrollable and sometimes unconscious.
Eg someone thinking moths are harmless(attitude) but if they see one they scream (action)
Explicit attitude- when people openly state their attitude and behave in a way that reflects this.
Eg exercise is good for me(attitude) goes to gym daily (action)
How was prejudice reduced in the movie

Examples of steryotyping in the movie
Saying all Asian girls are smart
All Chinese people are like the swamp rats he fought in Korea
