what is the purpose of the heart?
A
- pump oxygenated blood out into the periphery and to the organs
- pump deoxygenated blood back to the lungs and drop off CO2 and pick up more oxygen

what does blood do?
A
blood helps carry nutrients and cells such as red and white blood cells

what are some common risk factors dor cardiovascular diseases
A
- heredity, race, gender, and age
- obesity, cholesterol levels, hypertension
- smoking, sedentary lifestyle, diabetes
- stress, excess alcohol intake, cocaine use

what does poor oxygen delivery lead to ?
A
- faster heart rate and faster respiratory rate
- fatigue, decreased motility

what does poor blood supply to critical organs do? kidneys and liver specifically?
A
if the liver and kidneys cannot clean there will be an increase in waste products floating around
kidney: if it does not have proper blood flow it will not make urine

A
- arterial blood gas, pulse ox, CBC
- chest x-ray, stress test, perfusion imaging
- electrocardiogram, echocardiogram, cardiac catheterization
