Intrauterine insemination (IUI)
Donor sperm is injected into the uterus
Gamete Intrafallopian Transfer (GIFT)
Gametes are transferred to the oviduct. Fertilization occurs in vivo
*eggs and sperm are placed directly into the woman’s fallopian tubes
Intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI)
Injection of sperm directly into the egg, occurs outside body. (NOT IVF)
Zygote intrafallopian transfer (ZIFT)
Gametes are united outside the body, the immediate zygote is placed into the oviduct/ fallopian tube
*different than IVF or GIFT. GIFT unites gametes inside body. IVF allows embryo to grow for a few days so it can be placed directly into uterus
In vitro fertilization (IVF)
Fertilization of gametes occurs outside body and is then the embryos are placed into uterus
