Chapter 15.2 Flashcards
Linked genes
Genes located on the same chromosome that are close enough to be inherited together.
Linked genes CANNOT assort independently
When are genes considered unlinked?
If they are on different chromosomes, or far enough apart on a chromosome.
What does being recombinant mean?
It means that the genetic material in an organism’s gametes contains a new combination of alleles that are different from either parent (which happened bc of recombination)
If two genes are linked, would you expect to find more recombinant or nonrecombinant genes?
Nonrecombinant. This is bc the genes are so close that it is unlikely recombination will occur between them
What is a haplotype?
The combination of one of two homologous chromosomes
