What was the Trent Affair?
The incident where the UK threatened to go to war with the US because they illegally captured two Confederate diplomats from a British ship.
Where were the first shots fired in the Civil War?
Fort Sumter.
What was Lincoln hoping to accomplish in his address?
To get some of the Southern states back into the union by saying he wouldn’t interfere with the institution of slavery.
What promises did Lincoln make in his Inaugural address?
He promised not to do anything to slavery and to suspend the activities of the federal gov. temporarily in areas of hostility.
How did Jefferson Davis react to Lincoln resupplying and bolstering their military presence?
They attacked them at Fort Sumter
What was the intent of the Trent Affair?
For the Confederacy to receive support from Britain and France.
What happened in the Trent Affair?
Two Confederate negotiators were sent to England, but were captured and taken hostage by the Union. Threats to go to war with the Union from France and Britain forced Lincoln to release the negotiators.
What was the Anaconda Plan?
The North’s tactic to end the war early by surrounding and blocking off the South’s ports due to their lack of a Navy.
