Informal Leaders
A person who has no formal authority but has the respect of colleagues and some power over them.
Great Man Theory
- Leadership is inherent in the individual and cannot be taught.
- Leaders are born with traits.
- Great person in now times.
Trait Theory
- Similar to great person theory
- Born future leaders
- Used to judge if someone is an effective leader or not
Behavioral Theory
- Opposite of great man and trait
- Says that capable leaders can learn the skills needed rather than having born inherent qualities.
- 3 sets of skills
1) Technical
2) Human
3) Conceptual
Contingency Theory
- Suggests that most successful leaders adapt their leadership style.
- Just because one works does not mean it cannot be done more effectively or others cannot be used
Power And Influence Theories
- Expert knowledge of the leader
- Charm of the leader
- Leaders position In the firm
Transformational Leadership
Leading rather than managing workers. Transactional Leadership. Most effective during changes ungone by a business.
Emotional Intelligence
The ability to understand one’s own emotions, and those of others, to achieve better business performance.
Emotional Quotient
The level of a person’s emotional intelligence as recorded in a standardised test.
