Chapter 15 Flashcards
PERFORMANCE:
Level of Mobility Disability: defined as a restriction in PARTICIPATION of mobility related activities in the person’s home and community environment
CAPACITY:
Functional Mobility Skills: mobility within a standard setting (Clinical environment)
Examination at functional level:
uses test and measures to determine abilities in living environment
What tests and measures are used at functional level?
Self report measure of participation
Standardized Measures of Functional activities (capacity)
What is the limit of functional measures?
They are the indicators of the end of the project only
Do not provide insights into underlying impairments
Exam at strategy level:
systematic description of strategy level used by patients to meet requirements inherent in locomotion
Exam at impairment level:
ID underlying impairments that are potentially constraining mobility function and participation
What factors affect relationship between impairments and gait parameters ?
Type and extent of impairment
Functional level of the patient
Capacity for compensation by other systems.
What does stability/postural control at strategy level focus on?
Control of the Head, Arms, and Trunk (HAT) segments
AD
Extensor support moment
Foot placement at IC
Balance during double- and single-limb support
Progression at strategy level:
energy generation
advancement of the swing leg/foot-clearance.
Adaptation at strategy level:
Obstacle courses
Forward/Backward/Sideways
Anticipation of potential balance threats
