a set of goals or objectives for families that governmental bodies and social organizations try to achieve through structured programs or activities
Family Policy
are the objectives and goals that are more deliberate, intended and desirable
Policies
are the practical applications used to achieve or fulfill the gorals
Programs
Policies directed at families with the intent to achieve precise family outcomes or objectives.
i.e. Insurance companies are required to provide 48 hours of coverage of mothers/babies after birth.
Explicit Family Policies
Policies are often unstated.
i.e. policies of health, taxation, employment, school attendance, rules applied but not always followed.
Implicit Family Policies
the advocate endorses and actively works for a course of action that improves family life, sometimes opposing sides of an issue. An example: housing, Social Security, etc.
In Family Policy Advocacy
this policy is for all families that focuses on issues that affect everyone, i.e. tax equity, housing, employment, etc
Preventative
this policy focuses on the need or select groups or behaviors that are defined as problems, i.e. unwed parenthood, abortion, etc.
Ameliorative
focus on the person, individual and/or patterns of personal interactions
Micro Policies
focus on the social patterns and forms of social organization that shape an entire society
Macro Policies
believe the family is conjugal
Conventionals
believe the family takes on many forms
Progressives
