Humanistic Theory
McGregor’s managers/leaders gravitate towards either (personality, not generational):
theory X (self-fulfilling) -individual employees as a cog and wheel to maximize productivity - employees need direction from a superior at all times
and Theory Y
positive optimistic view of human behavior and workers

Total Quality Management
employee involvement in the control of quality in organizations
(also called continuous improvement or quality management)
what are the 4 basic tenents of organizational theory
1) orgs exists for economic reasons and to accomplish productivity goals
2) scientific analysis will identify the one best way to organize for production
3) specialization and division of labor maximize production
4) people and organizations act in accordane w/ rational economic principals
lewin’s change model
unfreeze (input)
-planning
change (transformation)
-action
refreeze (output)
-finalize
*critisism is that you can plan for change and get a group together around it and act around the one change initiattive
action research model
act upon change in a more ongoing way
- bring in an expert that is aware of the process to be a consultant, an external champion
- a champion within the business
- strong support from senior leadership
- similar to deductive research model
