-On the same day as Pearl Harbor’s attack, the Japanese attacked —American airfields in the Philippines
-MacArthur and his troops retreated to the Bataan Peninsula
-To avoid starvation, troops ate horses and mules and got diseases like malaria, scurvy, and dysentery
-MacArthur was evacuated to Australia, but 78,000 US soldiers were captured and forced to march 65 miles to a prison camp

-The plan was to bomb Tokyo with planes taking off from aircraft carriers

-16 B-25 bombers were used, but they would not be able to land on the carriers, instead, they would have to land in China
-The raid was a success mainly in raising American morale
