general hospital
provides the community with a variety of services, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, ranges from medical to obtsetric and psychiatric services. both inpatient and outpatient bases.
acute care hosptial
those with acute illnesses and conditions
chronic care facility
provides long-term inpatient medical care for people with little or no potential rehabilitation
convalescent hospital
provides recuperative care to individuals who are expected to recover and return to their own homes or other community placements.
nursing home
provides continuous nursing and medical care for individuals who cant be maintained at home as they are chronically ill or incapacitated.
rehabilitation hospital
people needing professional assistance to restore physical functioning following an illness, injury or surgery
psychiatric hospital
provides diagnosis and intensive/continuous care for mental illness and mental rehabilitation
drug addiction/alcoholic treatment centres
publicly or privately funded and offer rehabilitative care for those suffering from drug or alcohol addiction
federal hospital
operated throughout Canada by departments of the federal government for the care of special groups of patients such as military, veterans and indigenous peoples.
accreditation
process by which facilities are granted recognition for meeting certain standards relating to patient care and services.
Accreditation Canada
organization that sets standards of service and care as well as by providing a system of external peer review.
