How weather info is gathered
Meteorology - study of weather conditions and forecasting.
Satellite and weather stations gather weather information, sent to computers at headquarters of Met Éireann in Dublin. Information is processed and weather forecast is made. Weather forecast is out on radio, television and Internet.
Why is weather important
- need to know if it will be sunny for picnics
- farmers planning the cutting of silage or harvesting of grain need dry weather
- airports need to know if there will be ice or storms for take off or landing
- fishermen need to know if storms will take them out too far to sea
- football matches and horse racing are affected by bad weather in winter
Weather stations
Conditions of atmosphere using weather instruments.

Box with slatted sides (to allow air to circulate and keep out direct sunlight) with a thermometer, barograph and hygrometer. Painted white to reflect the sun.
Weather
State or condition of the atmosphere at any given time. Includes temperature, pressure, humidity, rainfall, wind, sunshine
