-Contract: Convict agrees to abide by certain conditions in exchange for being released
-Grace: The prisoner could remain incarcerated, but the government extends the privilege of release
-Custody: Even if a prisoner is released, the government still watches them (ex: parole)

-Some are more by the books/strict (act like police)
-Some are more helping/understanding (act like social workers)

-Loss of gov. benefits (housing, student loans)
-Felon disenfranchisement: Loss of right to vote (can be indefinite)

-Discretionary release (22%): Discretion of parole board as to whether or not be on parole
-Expiration (19%): Not released on parole; served out prison sentence

-Halfway houses: A transitional facility for soon-to-be-released people that connects them to community services, resources, and support
-Work and educational release: Incarcerated people are released during the day to work or attend school
-Furloughs: Temporary release of a convict to visit home (reintegration)
