Chapter 13 - High Frequency Generators or Permanent Magnet Generator. Flashcards

1
Q

Explain why AC Generators designs will not work for a high frequency Generator?

A
  • With a conventional salient pole or cylindrical rotor any attempt to greatly increase the number of poles would lead to centrifugal force problems

Q

Explain How 1600 Hz Generator produces such a High Frequency Output?

A
  • The Rotor is A Permant Magnet in 2 halves
  • One half has North Pole Inductors
  • The other half has South Pole Inductors
  • The North & South Poles are Slightly missaligned which is set by the manufacturer/Operator.
  • If the poles where perfectly aligned the resultant EMF would be zero.
