Crime prevention. For example: getting a dog that barks at strangers or
locking your doors. Making it hard for the criminal to commit a crime.

Example: Three strikes law
Deterrence theory.
Discusses how to discourage crime because it talks about guardians of different locations. Things are guarded and people are guarded. You may look at this as another strategy of hardening the target.
Routine activity crime triangle
When the offender makes the choice based on certainty and severity.
Rational choice theory.
What you do every day could help the offender make the rational choice to commit a crime against you.
