Assessment
The gathering of reliable information pertaining to students knowledge and understanding of critical concepts
Evaluation
The oricess if making judgements, based in part on assessment data
Measurement
The process of determining a quantitative or qualitative description of an individual students or group of students characteristics
Assessment FOR learning
Provides teachers with information to modify instruction in order to differentiate student learning
Assessment AS learning
Emphasizes using assessment as a process of developing and supporting students metacognition
Assessment OF learning
Used to confirm what students know, determine whether they have met standards and/or to show their placement relative to others
Formative assessment
Assessment during the course of instruction rather than after it is completed.
Summative assessment
Assessment after instruction is finished
Reliability
The extent to which an assessment produces a consistent, reproducible measure of performance
Validity
The extent to which a test measures what it is intended to measure and whether the test scores are used accurately
Content-related evidence
The extent to which the assessment reflects what you have been teaching
Instructional validity
The extent to which the assessment is a reasonable sample of what actually went on in the classroom
Pluralistic assessment
Assessment that includes being responsive to cultural diversity in the classroom and at school
Objective tests
Tests, such as multiple-choice, that have relatively clear, unambiguous scoring criteria
Selected-response items
Items on a test that are objective so that students responses can be scored on quick inspection
