  • part of Sioux reservation–where the poorest Native Americans lived
  • highlight poverty & bad health of Native Americans
  • vowed to stay until govt. investigated treatment of Native Americans & reviewed all treaties
  • ended after some deaths but highlighted poor living conditions of Native Americans
