Chapter 13: Flashcards
Forces interacting with matter
Dynamics
Push or pull; acts in a single direction with a certain size or magnitude
Force
A vector quantity and is labeled with a bold face F.
Force
SI unit is Newton and is always outside of an object.
Force
One newton of force is the amount of push or pull needed to accelerate a ______ object at 1m/s2.
1kg
Force between systems that acts only when one system touches another.
Contact force
Pushes together
Compression
Pulls away
Tension
Slide (scissors)
Slide
Force that acts between objects that are not touching
Field force
Examples of field forces:
- Gravity
- Magnetic
- Electric
Occurs when one force is larger than the rest; actis in the direction of the larger force; results in a change in motion
Unbalance force
Occurs when multiple, simultaneous forces have pushes and pull that cancel each other out; results in a (net) force of zero
Balanced Force
Objects continue their motion unlesss an external, unbalanced force acts on them
Galileo
Tendency of matter to resist change in its motion inertia
