Chapter 12: Eukaryotes Flashcards
Fungi are prokaryotes or eukaryotes?
Eukaryotes
How do fungi reproduce?
Fungi reproduce a sexually and asexually be at the formation of spores that detach from the parent and Germinate into a new mold
Asexual reproduction of fungi
Binary fission, spore formation, most common way that fungi reproduce, budding, fragmentation
Sexual reproduction
Harsh conditions
Hyphae
Multicellular fungi, tall threadlike structures that obtain nutrients
Aspergillus niger
Black mold, non-deadly, found in soil
Opportunistic pathogen
Harmless in a normal via meant but pathogenic in hosts with serious health complications
Candida albicans
Used infection and mouth/tongue and genital areas. Overgrowth due to medication and immunocompromised individuals
Tinea pedis
Athletes foot. Scales, skin breakage. Fun guy throwing and damp places
Aspergillosis
He is caused by Aspergillus. COM and fungi, we breathe and all the time. Deadly and immunocompromise individuals causes inflammation of the Lungs
Protozoa
Microscopic and unicellular eukaryotes. Free living or parasitic. Inhabit it water and soil. Over 20,000 species
Characteristics of protozoa reproduction
Fission, binary fission, budding, multiple fission
Multiple fission
Multiple nuclear divisions followed by multiple cytoplasmic divisions producing several offsprings
Conjugation
Reproduce sexually, does not have to be under harsh conditions, to protozoa sells fuse in the Micro nucleus migrate to each other. Produce two daughter cells with recombined DNA
How do amoeba move?
Pseudopods
