Chapter 12 Flashcards
How has our actions impacted the environment?
- Limited resources
Examples of limited resources
- Fossil fuels (cannot supply needs forever)
- Oceans (cannot supply food if we keep depleting their resources)
Megan what
Nuggets
Actions that affect the environment
1) Wasting food
-growing crops/livestock for food- require water
- waste food=waste Earth’s limited resources
2) Using more water than needed
- less than 1 percent of water- safe to consume
3) Using more electricity than needed
- more electricity used- more fuels burned - carbon dioxide increase- climate change
4) Creating excessive waste
- more waste- more waste to disposed- landfills filled
Actions to conserve the environment
1) Reduce use of fossil fuels
-take public transport
2) Reduce consumption
- 3rs- reduce need for raw materials- wood- paper
3) Introduce environmentally friendly practices
- ‘Bring your own bag’
4) Reforestation
- protects soil- stores carbon
- plants take in carbon dioxide- help to store carbon-reduce amt of carbon dioxide in air
When an organism stays somewhere what do you call it?
Habitat
HABIBI <3
What are physical factors?
- air, water, temperature, light, minerals, acidity/alkalinity
What allows plants to grow well?
Suitable combination of Physical factors
What is a data logger?
device that captures data over a period of time (temperature and PH)
What is a Structural adaptation?
Physical characteristics of organisms
What is Behavioral adaptation?
different behaviours of organisms that allow it to survive
What are organisms?
living things usually adapted to the environment that it lives in
What is a population?
group of organisms of same kind, living in same environment
What is a community?
consists of different populations of plants/animals living, interacting together in a particular environment
What is ecosystem?
made up of interactions between a community/its physical environment
