chapter 12 Flashcards
medulla oblongata, pons, midbrain
breathing, circulation, digestion, information coming in
cerebellum
body control, motion memory
thalamus
sorts data
hypothalamus
homeostasis, regulation body temperature
reticular formation & the reticular activation system
keeps it the cerebral cortex conscious and alert
inhibited by sleep centers, drugs and alcohol
super colliculus
receives input from the retina and the visual cortex
inferior colliculus
auditory center for the body
amygdala
helping bodies process fear and threats
hippocampus
learning and memory
basal ganglia
involuntary movements, gray matter motor processes
primarysomatosensory cortex
parietal lobe, receives general sensory information from skin and proprioceptors of skeletal muscle, joints, and tendons.
somatosensory association cortex
posterior of parietal lobe, integrates sensory unput from primary somatosensory cortex for understanding of object
visual cortex
extreme posterior tip of occipital lobe, receives visual information from retinas
visual association area
surrounds primary visual cortex, uses past visual experiences to interpret visual stimuli (color, form, movement)
auditory association area
located posterior to primary auditory cortex, stores memories of sounds and permits perceptions of sound stimulus.
