What difficulty did early queen Elizabeth I experience?
Her mother was executed, she had a though father, an awkward half-sister and lots of stepmothers.
When did Henry VIII die and who became king after him?
Henry died in 1547, and Edward became king in 1547.
When did Queen Mary die? (queen after Edward’s death in 1553)
She died in 1558, the same year when Queen Elizabeth became queen
What branch of Christianity was Elizabeth?
She was a protestant.
What was Queen Elizabeth’s middle-way?
It stopped the country from being totally protestant or totally catholic, in between both branches.
What was done in the middle-way?
Elizabeth made herself Governor of the Church of England, instead of Head so people can still think of the pope as Head of the Church

Did Queen Elizabeth’s middle-way work? Explain what happened.
It pleased most people, except extremists on both sides. The Catholic Pope Pius V excommunicated Queen Elizabeth and told people not to obey her. Because of this Queen Elizabeth became more strict towards Catholics.

A secret agent of Queen Elizabeth I who kept an eye on Catholcis
What was done against Catholics by Queen Elizabeth? Did this establish Protestantism?
Catholic priests could be executed. The fine for recusants (people who didn’t attend church services due to Protestantism) as greatly increased which made them leave the country. This established the Protestant fate.
Who was Mary, Queen of Scotland? How many marriages has she had, and with who?
She was the son of James V of Scotland, and became queen in 1542. She was catholic and married many times (to a French king in 1558, then to an English lord in 1565, and then to Earl Bothwell 1567)
Why did some Scots rebel against Queen Mary of Scotland?
Her second husband (the English lord) was brutally killed and the people that rebelled thought she had connections with the death.
