3
Q

what is a cause of obesity?

A

inexpensive, convenient, good-tasting fast food is readily available. High-fructose corn syrup may contribute to obesity also. Fructose, unlike glucose, does not stimulate insulin secretion.

  • A second possible reason is that people are not as active. Most jobs today do not require a high level of physical activity and so we therefore, we do not need as much food as we once did.
  • There is also a genetic reason. Heredity appears to affect people’s metabolic efficiency (how much weight people gain or lose when they are placed on a high- or low-calorie diet.
