what is a cause of obesity?
inexpensive, convenient, good-tasting fast food is readily available. High-fructose corn syrup may contribute to obesity also. Fructose, unlike glucose, does not stimulate insulin secretion.
- A second possible reason is that people are not as active. Most jobs today do not require a high level of physical activity and so we therefore, we do not need as much food as we once did.
- There is also a genetic reason. Heredity appears to affect people’s metabolic efficiency (how much weight people gain or lose when they are placed on a high- or low-calorie diet.

bariatric surgery, consuming less calories, exercise, drug treatment

when a smaller stomach is formed
what kind of issues can bariatric surgery cause?

why is gastric bypass so effective?
disrupts the production of ghrelin
what can drug treatment do for obesity?
Drugs could reduce the amount of food someone eats, it could prevent certain foods from being digested, and they could increase their metabolic rate.
what percentage of those with anorexia die from the disorder?
5-10%
is OCD a link to anorexia?
nope, it is an effect
what about treatment for anorexia?
CBT but it has a success rate of 50% and relapse is 22% during a one-year period
what are anorexia and bulimia symptoms of?
the symptoms of eating disorders are actually symptoms of starvation

increased activity may actually be a result of fasting
why would rats do this during semistarvation?
innate tendency to seek food when it is scarce, but can’t in their cage so they run a lot on the wheel
