Chapter 11- Group 1 elements Flashcards
1
Q
Some examples of Group 1 elements?
A
Lithium Sodium and Sodium
2
Q
How are they stored?
A
They are stored under oil to prevent them from reacting with water or oxygen.
3
Q
What are there properties?
A
- they are good conductors of heat and electricity
- soft, can be cut with a knife
- Low melting and boiling points
- Low density’s, can float on water
4
Q
What is the order of reactivity in group 1?
A
They are more reactive up the group.
As you go down the group the size increases, so more energy is needed.
5
Q
What is there reaction with water?
A
They react vigorously giving a solution of the metal hydroxide and hydrogen.
It will move around, fizz, bubbles of gas and get smaller.
