Definition of epidemiology
The study of patterns, distribution and causes of disease in a population.
Definition of Morbidity
number of people in a population that have the disease
Definition of Mortality
number of people that have died from the disease in a population
Definition of endemic
disease that is always present in a population
Definition of epidemic
disease that shows a sudden increase in the incidence in a population
Definition of pandemic
disease that shows sudden increase in several populations (usually countries)
Definition of prevalence
number of people who have the disease in a given period of time
Definition of incidence
number of new cases of the disease in a population per year
